Origins & History

Carrots originated in Persia (modern-day Iran and Afghanistan) around 500 BC. Initially cultivated for their leaves and seeds, they were later selectively bred for their edible roots. Today's orange varieties were developed in the Netherlands in the 17th century to honor the House of Orange.
